NATHALIA NEVES

NATHALIA NEVES` PROFILE

Nathalia writes about herself:
My name is Nathalia, a journalist, married and currently living in Sao Paulo. I was born in Brasilia, a beautiful city which I love.

So here we go .. Let's talk a little bit about Nathalia ...

I like candles, I like Malbec, I like watches, rare meat, snow-like pictures, sparkling wine, tuna, and I like laughing, boots, cooking, scarves, foot massage, painted nails, I also like green, buying perfumes, museums, quilts, basic black, the full moon, being kissed in the neck, popcorn, walking barefoot, pottery, pens, pizza, tea, mango, hug, slippers, smiles, planting, sunglasses, a hot bath; I like to break rules, tango, writing, talking nonsense, and Christmas tree, too. I enjoy the beach, Toblerone, jeans, shiver in the back, exotic locations, jello, the smell of basil, family, big earrings, going to the movies in the morning, picnic, starry sky, risotto, coffee… I like tongue kiss, Pavarotti, olive oil, taste of adventure, travel, and I enjoy campfires, challenges, wind on my face, cappuccino, chocolate, incense, soups, friends around, wood, lying on the carpet, pasta, seasonings, good music, lipstick, Chinese food, tattoos, getting to know churches, cheese cake, messing around, the internet, olives, and trusting others as well. Anyway, I love life ...

JUNE FESTIVAL

FESTAS JUNINAS/Junina parties

The June Festivities in Brazil are held to celebrate Saint Anthony on June 13, Saint John on June 23 and Saint Peter on 29. Since they are religious events, they take place near churches and are organized by church community members or church goers. Schools and other institutions as well as residential condos also organize some social activities for students and the local community usually both as a fund raising and entertainment event.
Prep
arations include, besides setting up stalls for selling food and drink, designating who is gonna play the part of the groom and the bride in the typical folkloric dance, the so called “quadrilha” (square dance). On the actual “quermesse” days, people will eat pop corn, corn on the cob, coconut sweet, “canjica” (sweet made of corn), “paçoca” (sweet made of peanuts), "arroz doce" (sweet made of rice), “bolo de fubá” (corn meal cake), sweet potato, and also ordinary food like spaghetti, cod dumpling or pizza. Hot wine and “quentão”, made of pinga (brandy) and ginger are typical drinks. The dancers, usually kids, will wear a costume: floral patterned dresses with laces and ribbons for girls, a plaided shirt with ripped and patched trousers for boys, and a straw hat for both.
People say Brazilian people are festive and happy people, that every occasion is opportunity for having fun, is that so?

JOB INTERVIEW PRACTICE

HOW TO GET READY FOR JOB INTERVIEWS

Practice - A MODEL INTERVIEW
A teenager is having her first interview. She wants to be a receptionist at a renowned publicity agency. (I stands for interviewer and A for applicant)

I- Please, have a seat. Would you like some water?
A- Yes, please/ No, thanks.
I- I´d like to ask a few questions.
A- Sure! /Certainly, go ahead/ shoot
I- I understand you want to apply for the position of bilingual receptionist here

A- Yes, I do. I think it´s a great opportunity.
I- Have you worked before?
A- Only as a freelance model, but since I´ve just turned 18, I´ve only been studying so far.
I- And now you would like a job?
A- Yes, absolutely. I heard good things about this company, I know it´s a great communication agency and it seems I´ll have prospects for the future here, I mean a career, won´t I?
I- Have you been told about the work schedule/ shift?
A- Yes. I´ve been told that I´ll have to work from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. to begin with, but then that later I´ll be able to change my schedule so that I can go to college.
I_ Do you have any questions?
A_ Yes, just to confirm, How much will I get paid?
I_ R$1,800.00 plus HMO, transportation and you´ll be given a card worth R$17 a day for your meals.
A_ For someone´s first job it´s really great, it´ll help a lot. What about uniform? I´ve been told that you´ll provide me one, is it correct?
I_ yeah, we´ll give you a black coat with black social pants and a white shirt but you´re allowed to wear a colorful t-shirt, instead.

Notes: Observe that the applicant considered all the interviewer´s statements as questions. The applicant is applying for a bilingual position, so she has to show she can speak English.
Note also the use of Present Perfect Tense, the Tag question, and the Passive Voice.
